Father's Day

Well it's time to celebrate Father's day. Fathers have a lot of responsibilities given to them by God. We are to love our families so much that we would be willing to give our very lives for them. Sadly to say, there are many fathers out there that don't have a clue of what it means to be a Godly father. Many of them aren't even in the lives of their children. Fathers abuse their children and make their lives miserable. We all as fathers should strive to be like our heavenly Father.

I think the story in the Bible of the prodigal son is more about the father than it is the son. It tells of the unwavering love a dad has for his son, even though that son broke his heart and left home. The son wasted his life and money doing what he wanted to do all the while the father waited patiently for his return. When he returned home the father didn't scold him, he didn't tell him what a terrible son he was for leaving. The scriptures tell us in Matthew 15:20 that he had compassion for him and fell on his face and kissed him. What a story of love! This is the same kind of love that our heavenly Father has for us, waiting patiently for us to return and when we do, He welcomes us like we were never gone.

You may not have an earthly father that loves you like this father did. You may have had a father that was not around when you needed him. But I guarantee you there is a heavenly Father that loves you so much He gave up His only Son for you. He is waiting patiently for you to give him your heart. All you have to do is ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart and save you. Romans 10:13 says, whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. Give Him your heart today! You'll be glad you did.
